In this column, Nicholas Kristof shares his concerns on the widespread problem of child pornography. He discusses a particular case dealing with a girl named Raven Kaliana. Raven's parents made money off of her pornography throughout her entire childhood. Luckily, in college she escaped their control and took it upon herself to start fighting child abuse. Kristof remains even-tempered for the most part while writing this piece, but still makes sure to express his strong opinion on the matter. All of Kristof's writing displays this pattern. He remains calm throughout each piece, but here and there packs a punch through a smart remark or sarcastic comment. He continually tries to rally the audience to make a change of some sort and does this through the use of both personal opinion and logic. Each of his pieces tends to start off with a reporting of an occurrence and ends with a proposal for change. Kristof has the writing style of both a realist and an optimist. He states the problems without fluff, but still has hope for things to get better.
